Position Description: 1. General job duties. Types of procedures required. Types and ages of patients, number of rooms
All ages of patients, 11 beds, ICU and Tele patients, Ability to care for ventilated patients, post cardiac cath, IABP, sepsis, COPD, post op surgical, trauma, limited neuro, DKA pts
2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.) What equipment is attached to the clinic, x-ray, lab or do they have to send out for these? What hospitals will have privileges if any?
Meditec charting, bedside verification for med administration, Vent, Bipap, Swan, Phillips monitors, IV pumps, Transvenous pacers, etc.
3. Required skills and minimum years of experience. Skills may include anything from Surgical (Ortho, Neuro, CV, etc.) Family Practice, Cardiology, Geriatrics, etc.
Minimum 1 year of ICU experience. Tele experience, ability to read EKG, care for patients as stated in #1 also occasional peds patients such as RSV, DKA
4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (BLS, ACLS, NCCPA/AANP) Is a national certification required? Is a DEA, Prescriptive Authority required?
WY or compact nursing license required.
BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC (they will not be the primary for a peds patient, just need to have PALS or ENPC in case there is an emergency. Will assist at times with peds, but not take a peds patient.)
5. Shift or schedule requirements. (What support staff are in the clinic; Is a doctor available by phone, in the clinic, etc.) Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?
Shifts are negotiable but will be 12 hours. Could be rotating, straight, etc. Call not required but may be asked on occasion if they would take call.
6. Number of patients in a day; who do they have as support staff?
11 beds in department Support staff CPS, Lab, Rad, 24 hour coverage Hospitalists, eICU support
7. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
2 or 3 patients per nurse generally
8. Dress Code:
Navy scrubs
9. Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
3 shifts of orientation with ICU RN on the floor. No classroom orientation.
