Edgecumbe Hospital to provide respiratory therapy modalities per protocol and those ordered by physicians to improve the cardiopulmonary conditions of patients from neonatal to geriatric ages. Performs in a professional manner, respects confidentiality, and demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the seven Standards for Service Excellence outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual. Position Complexities: Most difficult aspects; Miscalculation of ventilator settings or dosages of medications. Failure to maintain equipment, which may result in incorrect readings. Responsible for following policies and procedures related to the administration of respiratory services. Impact; If policies and procedures are not followed, unsafe and improper healthcare may be given. Maintains compliance with all state, federal, The Joint Commission, other regulatory body standards and hospital requirements related to provisions of respiratory therapy services and understands legal consequences of actions and interventions. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Duty/Responsibility #1 (50%): Participates in the assessment, administration, and evaluation of respiratory therapy treatments, pulmonary function testing, performs extubations, airway management and ventilatory life support to critical adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Duty/Responsibility #2 (20%): Participates with other health care professionals in obtaining, interpreting and evaluating pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases, airway management and respiratory treatments. Duty/Responsibility #3 (15%): Provides instruction to patients in use of respiratory therapy equipment, inhalation gases and other therapies related to the treatment of respiratory diseases and/or the promotion of respiratory wellness. Duty/Responsibility #4 (10%): Serves as a recourse person and consultant to hospital personnel involved in the treatment of individuals with respiratory disease. Duty/Responsibility #5 (5%): Responsible for the cleaning, care and maintenance of all equipment used in the delivery of respiratory treatments and pulmonary function testing. Baseline Qualification Requirements: Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Credentialed by the NBRC as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist at time of hire.

Skilled in use of mechanical ventilators; Performing arterial blood gas sampling; Applying cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Work alone/unsupervised; Assess and Prioritize; Work under adverse conditions such as communicable infectious diseases.Other Comments: Mobility to work in a typical clinical environment and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
