The candidate conveys a positive image of the clinic and exhibits values of respect, integrity, innovation, and compassion. The Clinical Lab Scientist works under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer. SUMMARY All employees are expected to perform their duties and alignment with policies and procedures and Mission, Values, and Vision of Catalina Island Medical Center (CIMC). The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction with respect and dignity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Responsible for all aspects of laboratory services on a daily basis at CIMC, including processing test performance and reporting of test results. 2. Performs phlebotomy on outpatients or inpatients (as needed) 3. Develop, implement, and maintain all related policies and procedure. 4. Responsible for the directing and supervising of staff and all technical and clerical aspects of service, patient satisfaction and problematic issues as they arise. 5. Supervise laboratory staff members on a daily basis. Role includes hiring, schedule, monitoring productivity standards, departmental training, approving time off, processing payroll, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and exit paperwork. 6. Responsible for specimen, processing test performance and reporting of test results. 7. Follow the laboratory s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. 8. Performs market research for new reagents, procedures, or better pricing. 9. Adhere to the laboratory s quality control policies and document activity including calibrations, maintenance performed and related corrective action plans, as needed. 10. Reviews charges daily for correct coding for ICD s. 11. Facilitates the EMR and all interfaces and is able to guide all users in all Laboratory operation. Works closely with IT staff for all computer issues. 12. Assist the accounting department by approving all departmental bills for accounts payable and keep comprehensive records. 13. Facilitate work effort to bring continuous process improvement to related functions.ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTIONS1. Be compliant with organizational policies and procedures and related departmental procedures.2. Follow all HIPAA regulations as outlined in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual. 3. Provide strong alliance and act as a liaison with medical staff (including physicians) and ancillary departments of CIMC. 7. Maintain clean safe working environment.8. Assist the accounting department by approving all departmental bills for accounts payable and keep comprehensive records.9. Assist to facilitate physician meetings and provide ongoing communication with physicians as needed.10. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTSKnowledge, Skills, Abilities1. Proper specimen collection including patient preparation if applicable, labeling, and handling, preservation, processing, expiration, transportation, and storage of specimens. 2. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment. 3. Perform each test method and proper instrument use. 4. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each test performed.5. Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.6. Implementing the quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.7. Awareness of the factors that influence test results.8. Assess and verify validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample test values prior to reporting patient test results.9. Infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies by effectively role modeling appropriate behavior. 10. React calmly and competently in emergency situations. 11. Common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.12. Personnel development, management and dealing with issues.13. Ability to multitask and promote teamwork. Additional Information:Housing is a studio apartment and is offered at $200 per week paid for by traveler. There is a $200 non-refundable cleaning fee.
