This position also provides direct care to residents. All this is done according to professional standards, standard procedures, and established State and Federal regulations for skilled nursing facilities.NATURE AND SCOPEThis position reports directly to the Director of Nursing. The position supervises the professional and non-professional personnel assigned to the unit and provides direct care to residents. In performance of duties, the charge nurse is entrusted with the following responsibilities:1. Assign duties to professional and non-professional staff assigned to unit, assuring a high standard of nursing and satisfaction completion of tasks.2. Supervise professional and non-professional staff.3. Supervise graduate nurses, sign records and documentation as required.4. Assist in orientation of new nursing personnel and reinforces training standards to maintain a high quality of care.5. With the director of nursing, participate in interviewing, performance appraising, disciplining and motivating of staff assigned to nursing unit.6. Provide explanation of nursing procedures and assistance to staff to assure ongoing understanding and training.7. Communicate on a regular basis with the director of nursing regarding observations and suggestions of problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, conditions, etc. 8. Observe and evaluate residents medical, mental and emotional conditions and communicates significant changes to appropriate staff. When indicated is responsible for notifying the physician and family members according to prescribed procedures.
