Plans and performs all CT procedures and post processing using advanced technology based on clinical criteria, anatomy and established protocols. **This position will be scheduled and expected to work at both Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center and Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center***Minimum Qualifications Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist (SNMT) Basic Life Support (BLS) certifiedPreferred Qualifications CT Registered (2nd Registry) within 12 months of CT hire date. Two years of experience as a registered radiology technologist. Prior Computed Tomography experience in a Trauma/ Cardiac facility preferred. Venipuncture competentEssential Duties Obtains CT images according to established protocols.
o Ensures patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, applicable protective shielding used, and correct technical factors are selected for imaging purposes.
o Dispenses appropriate IV, oral and/or rectal contrast to patients based on patient history and protocol.
o Performs venous access for patients requiring IV contrast administration as directed by the radiologist. Review and evaluate computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Ability to obtain and document accurate patient medical histories into an Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Picture Archiving System (PACs).
o Record, process, and maintain patient data or treatment records and prepare reports. Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff Thoroughly explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scans Set up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is clean and ready. Ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized and in working order. Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers with regard to policy. Transportation of patients to and from exam rooms. Monitor patient s conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physicians/providers. Provide assistance to physicians or other technologists as needed. Perform procedures such as routine contrast studies, examinations of the head, neck, trunk or extremities under the general supervisor of physician. Perform CTA imaging: Carotid, Head, Neck, Run-offs, and PE critical bolus timing. Perform CT interventional procedures. Is knowledgeable to provide assistance and appropriate supplies for biopsies, drainages, aspirations, Endo leak glueing, and ablations. Maintains working knowledge of pharmacology to ensure lab results are obtained prior to the scheduled exam. Determine possible drug interaction with IV contrast. Provide assistance in dressing or changing seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients Complete daily quality assurance activities, monitor equipment operation, and report malfunctioning equipment to the proper departments. Perform general administrative tasks, such as answering phones and scheduling patients for exams Assist with on-the-job training of new employees and students. Provide students or technologists with feedback for additional views, alternate positioning, or improved techniques to ensure the images produced are of the highest quality Complete annual trainings and competencies. Demonstrate flexibility to assist department during periods of short staffing Have the availability to be on-call Additional Information:**As of 4/18/22 New MSA in effect and 16 hours of orientation will not be billable. **Must be willing to float to similar or lower acuity units if needed and work E/O holiday and E/O weekend. **Any time off added or requested after confirming will not be approved.
