General Information:
37 recovery rooms
12 for outpatients, 11 for inpatients; 6 used for overflow, staging, and extended stay patients
Approx. 50 cases a day
24/7 OR coverage
Minimum Experience: 2-3 years of exp in PACU setting
Will not accept a first time traveler
Elective cases are done during weekdays Monday-Friday and Saturday Sunday tend to be emergent and all other necessary procedures
What types of surgeries will they recover?
Inpatient and outpatient procedures
Simple to complex surgeries needing MAC anesthesia to General, and spinals.
Occasionally will be ICU and ventilated/ intubated.
Trauma
Orthopedics-total hip/knee, and shoulder arthroplasties
GYN-urinary slings, hysterectomies, BSOs, post C-section Maternity,
breast biopsies, resections, thoracic surgery-lobectomies,
Colostomies, hernias, carpal tunnels,
GU- cysto, laser lithotripsies, Whipples, Nephrectomies,
Neuro: crani and shunts, Gastric Sleeve,
Endo-EGDs, IPR (interventional radiology/ cardiology),
Pediatric cases-dental hygiene, eye surgery, pain pumps, ports, hemorrhoidectomies
Mandatory skills:
Charting with Cerner or EPIC
Insulin gtts, electrolyte and Heparin protocols
Pre-op experience will likely start their shift in pre-op and move to PACU once all patients are prepped for surgery, or they could strictly work pre-op some shifts
Experience with ICU holds vent management/critical care drips
Required certifications:
ACLS, BLS, PALS
Patient ratio:
1:1-2, follows ASPN guidelines
Schedule:
10 or 12-hr shifts
Weekend rotation: as many as every other or as few as once per month census dependent
Cannot promise block scheduling, but will try to accommodate when able to
Call Schedule: Once per month
May fall during the week or on a weekend that they are scheduled to work (11p-530a)
If call falls on a weekend - you could be on call a Saturday or Sunday night but not both.
2 RN s on call each night 1 will cover Cardiac and the other will cover PACU (travelers will only cover PACU)
Call back time 30minutes
No sleep room
Orientation:
2 days of hospital orientation, 2 days on the unit
Other Notes:
Will discharge the patient from PACU all one unit from Pre-op, Phase 1 and Phase 2 through discharge
Travelers will wear hospital scrubs
Daily staffing: 11 in PACU without including Charge RN; 9 in Pre-op without including Charge RN
Usually we have 2-3 nurses working overnights
